Description

The swimming coach is expected to deliver in-person private sessions with the athlete, taking into consideration many other aspects of this opportunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, organize and deliver a customized swimming/training plan/program, which will include administration of some practice(s), individualized coaching, skills, and methodology for the athlete
  • Developing and implementing a training program that focuses on improving technique, stroke placement, speed, and style for athlete
  • Teaching brand new swimming styles or strokes to athlete
  • Teaching and perfecting skills like flips, kicks, body rolls, floating, and breath control to the athlete
  • Determining athletes’ ability and skill level before setting up a training program
  • Setting training goals and objectives for the athlete
  • Assist in the selection or recommendation of equipment/apparel/devices/accessories for the athlete
  • Recording training sessions in order to analyze strokes, techniques, and monitor progress
  • Provide guidance and expertise, from experience, on injury prevention to the athlete

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, minimum, but degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Relevant certifications or credentials (i.e. American Red Cross, ASCA, USMS, USA Swimming, etc.)
  • Ability to determine swimming level and analyze techniques
  • Be willing to utilize/coach the athlete on the Final Surge platform
  • Previous coaching or athlete experience at the high school or collegiate level
  • Ability to communicate effectively and strong interpersonal skills
  • A high degree of creativity, vision, and resourcefulness
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Good knowledge of health and nutrition
  • Must be able to work evening hours for training/practice activities, and 1 weekend day (either Saturday or Sunday) for swim meet support activities, when a meet is planned
  • If the coach does not reside in the NCR (National Capital Region) which is Maryland, Virgina and the District of Columbia, some travel (compensated) will be involved for meet support activities only. Otherwise, any other in-person planned activities between the coach and the athlete will take place by way of the athlete traveling to the coach’s location

Athlete Profile:

  • Adult
  • Ran a 5K in 2014 with a finish time of 40:48
  • Ran a 5K in 2015 with a finish time of 47:45
  • Ran a XC Race (5K distance) in October of 2020 with a finish time of 45:50
  • Not currently running regularly
  • Not currently doing any strength training
  • Lap swimming in the pool (25M) limitedly, at least 1 x per week
  • Has a Garmin Swim 2 GPS Watch w/Add-On HR and Swim Chest Sensors
  • Medical history (all information will be shared with the coach)
